On July 16, 2024, Leadership Cattaraugus brought together local leaders, professionals, and aspiring talent for a dynamic Manufacturing Day program titled “Manufacturing Connections.”
Held at the SUNY JCC Cutco Theatre in Olean, New York, the event provided participants with a unique opportunity to explore the inner workings of the manufacturing industry in our region while fostering leadership and accountability.
Kickoff and Leadership Insights
The day began with breakfast and an inspiring leadership talk by Darrell Neal, board member and the program day’s mentor.
Drawing on Michael Timms’ renowned work, “How Leaders Inspire Accountability in Others,”
Darrell highlighted the importance of fostering accountability within teams, emphasizing that true leadership is about setting the right example and encouraging others to take ownership of their roles.
Engaging Panels and Industry Safaris
Participants were then immersed in a series of panel discussions and activities designed to shed light on the challenges and opportunities within the manufacturing sector. These sessions, hosted in the Cutco Theatre, offered invaluable insights into industry trends, innovation, and the critical role that leadership plays in driving success.
After the panels, attendees embarked on a series of industry safaris, beginning with a behind-the-scenes tour of Cimolai-HY Plant 1. This visit provided a firsthand look at the precision and dedication required in modern manufacturing, as well as the advanced technologies employed by Cimolai to maintain their position as an industry leader.
Exploring Eaton and Cutco: Innovation in Action
The day continued with a tour of Eaton – Cooper Power Systems Inc., where participants observed cutting-edge manufacturing processes and learned about the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability. The tour highlighted Eaton’s role in producing high-performance electrical components and its impact on the local economy.
The program concluded with a visit to the Cutco Visitor’s Center, where attendees had the chance to explore the history and craftsmanship behind one of Olean’s most iconic brands. The day wrapped up with a reflection on the importance of community engagement and the role that local businesses play in shaping the future of our region.
